WECHAT MAY SOON OFFER ADS IN THEIR FACEBOOK LIKE TIMELINE - MOMENTS

There has been a bit of a buzz on Weibo this morning as some users have noticed “promoted” ads appearing in their Wechat moments timeline. Facebook and Twitter users will already be very familiar with ads appearing in their timeline and news feeds, but for Wechat users this is something new.

The first ad that has been spotted appears to be by Wechat themselves, so it’s safe to say that ads may not yet be ready for prime time, but that are certainly something Wechat is keen to explore.

These ads are not appearing in the messaging section, and for the time being at least are being limited to a users moments timeline. This will certainly be a great new platform for brands to promote themselves and attract new followers directly within Wechat, we have been difficult to achieve to date.
